Ok, I concede that you may be right! Upon reflection, I don't 
place too many demands on my older machines (one old lightweight 
gets thrown in my bicycle saddlebag and is primarily used for 
email/web-browsing while I'm away from home). I try to stick all 
sorts of USB-things into my 2.6.x machines (re-mounting multiple 
storage devices without re-booting is still a problem which udev 
still doesn't seem to cope with very well).

Perhaps installing 2.6 kernel out of Slackware "testing" might do 
the trick for Edward.......
