Modern? Not if it uses 2.4.x. Stability? Most other distros can claim 
that. Low levels of bloat? My original Debian box started from three 
floppy disks!

Well, unless they are back ported into 2.4 most of the improvements 
(such as device support) are going into 2.6, and the problem is device 
support. I personally don't like back ports - the extensive testing done 
on changes to 2.6 (aka 'early releases'!!) is not done on back ports.

2.6.0 came out in December 2003 so it is getting on for four years old.
