I have a question...

What 'settings' are we trying to preserve?

When it comes down to it, you can manually export all of your:

- Email
- Bookmarks
- Documents

Surely when moving between systems / OS's its a good time to 'refresh'
everything?

I for one do a deliberate reinstall of my (windows) boxes every ~2 years
or so.. I find that my habits change over time, I learn new/better ways to
do things, and Its often easier to start from scratch than to try to
import older legacy configs. It also helps to rid me of any software that
I no longer need (and all associated junk tied to that).

...
