One of the nice things about Kmail - and Balsa - is that it uses mbox or
maildir for its messages, not some cryptic format that nothing else can read.
Makes it very easy for mucking around with installs.
I've just tried a 64-bit Debian install for a few days, Kmail in 64 had a
weird problem with losing track of which messages had been read (i.e. they
kept reverting to 'unread' status) so I used Balsa. Now, for other reasons,
I'm back with 32-bit for the time being, and it was easy to copy the messages
back from the 64-bit Kmail AND Balsa folders, stick them in Kmail's folder
here, and Kmail reads 'em all fine. (Curiously, the messages that refused
to 'stay read' in Kmail64 refuse to 'stay read' in this version too - so I've
segregated them in a different folder - but new incoming messages behave as
they should).
