not that it would solve your problem immediately, but as these are all open 
source projects:

The open source community is usually quite proud of their "babies". And they 
respond usually quite well towards bug reports and constructive input. So 
that leads to my question: Have you submitted the problems that you have 
neatly listed in this rant as bug reports to the various projects?
