Well if it is there, then there is likely it will work. If its not in
the database, the opposite applies.

semi-open means closed! Maybe it will work on FC6, as FC6 stands now.
What happens next time you upgrade FC6? Are its libs now compatible with
the binary provided by Canon? If not, how will you re-compile the Canon
software against the new libraries?

You really need to be aware of the linuxprinting.org database.

If you want a multi-function device that works to scan, print and fax
out, then look to HP, who provide open source drivers.
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/ - there is a list of supported devices
there too.
