Agree with Liz, Canon printers have been a pain. I've had a very positive
experience with Brother (I'm using a Brother multifunction printer) -
they've got a whole drivers and support section for Linux. Worth a look -

In my experiance Canon does not play well at all with linux. Ive got them
going but its always been a mission. Ive generally stuck with HP because of
it, even though i dont think they are as good a printer.
