Define typically. Mine has. Which hasn't either?

Further options (not mutually exclusive) are:

*) Explain the problem to Shuttleworth and ask whether he might want to
get up to scratch. He makes, afterall, the most user-friendly Linux ;)

*) It is all about community. Join today, and bring things up to scratch
yourself.

*) Recompile the wine source .deb package, after inserting a -static
switch. Do this with all other 32bit-only apps too (assuming you can get
the source code, that is).

*) Install a 32bit ubuntu on your 64bit box instead.

*) The really good option which is wearing its vanishing cloak.

Looks like a bit of work ahead :(
