[nzlug] AV at (squid) proxy ?

arvo guys and guyesses,
I am looking at providing some border AV at a proxy server, and am surprised that this appears to be a 'newish' concept. I haven't found much information. Two leading candidates are Kaspersky AV with squid which I will run on a Linux box, or a perl beast called                               Viralator about which I can find little technical detail.

Has anyone used either of these products ? 
or addressed this problem in another way ?

I would also like to know any 'general' technique for integrating proxy with AV.
