[nzlug] Syslog to remote log server

In another thread someone mentioned logging to a remote log server via syslog.
My Netgear ADSL router says it can do this. How?

Downside: I bought the router instead of using an old Pentium I class
box running IPCOP because I didn't want to spend $30+ on power every
month. A syslog server would undo this.

Upside: It would be nice to have more detailed logs going back further
than the little router can store.

How easy is it to set up a syslog server? Is there any point? Is it
worth $30+ per month of extra power bill?
