[nzlug] Dual booting Vista and Ubuntu

I just learnt the hard way that you can't install Ubuntu on a Vista machine
the same way you would on an XP machine. The resizer seems to corrupt the
Vista partition, and of course you only have a recovery CD (if Vista came
preinstalled), which expects to be able to blow away everything on the disk
to 'fix' things.

Apparently the way to do it is use the windows tools to resize the partition
first, and then set up the partitions you want. Fortunately, the person I was
doing this for isn't too concerned about Vista, and just wanted it
there 'just in case it was useful'.
