If you can't find anything in resolv.conf you could always use brute force 
and run a packet capture whilst trying to resolve something, see what 
happens.

You could also try from the command line, some tools like 'nslookup' or 
'dig'... if you fail to specify a DNS server it'll presumably try the 
'defaults'... first act would be to find out what the defaults are...

DNS servers are usually specified through PPP on a dialup but you can 
manually override if you have to.  (not so handy if the ISP changes their 
architecture, though!)
