Has to exist to get DNS working from external name servers (otherwise
you are typically reliant on /etc/hosts )

/etc/resolv.conf is usually updated by the ISP when the IP address is
assigned. It it isn't being set up, you need to check your ppp options
- something like usepeerdns from memory
