For what it is worth, I've pretty much given up on GUI cd/dvd writing apps as I was getting just those kinds of errors with some (low cost) media. I've been using wodim (succesor to cdrecod apparently) on the same disks which nautilus rejected. 

On the other hand, Nautilus burned my (brand name) DVD-Rs without any problems.

A bad burn can be worse than just a wasted disk... if the disk in question was a rescue sytem because I didn't fully trust the Feisty upgrade process working on a raid array.
