Thanks, I managed to sort that out on all my machines as a result of
your post. Specifically:
1. two gentoo machines used zic and your amended file and it worked
2. one sabayon machine zic would not compile the file, complaining of
"too many transitions". Probably down to a more recent glibc. Copying
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Pacific/Auckland from one of the gentoo machines worked.
3. knoppmyth (based on debian) worked after an apt-get update && apt-get
install tzdata (this machine is perhaps the most important to have right
or recordings will be an hour out and I will be overseas at the time)
4. ipcop seems to have been updated although I cannot see it in the list
of recent updates.
Actually that just leaves the freebsd machine. [short headscratching]...
And I'm pleased to report that zic worked there too. And the tztest
binary compiled on linux worked on freebsd without recompiling!
