I apologise for the slightly off-topic post, but this is likely to be of
interest to list subscribers.
Some time ago I founded a political party called Electronic Freedom New
Zealand [EFNZ], originally with the purpose of promoting the likes of
better access to fast broadband in Parliament.
Since then I've come up with an interesting [and in my opinion, better]
idea for how to run the party.
The idea is that a set of MPs [as few as one, or as many as the whole
house ;)] sit in Parliament, posting the details of Bills that are
submitted to the EFNZ website. Members of EFNZ [who are simply
interested members of the general public] can vote on the Bill online,
and the proportion of votes represented in the online vote is the
proportion that will be voted in Parliament. Similar measures allow
party members [again, just members of the general public] to submit
Bills, and to ask questions to be asked in Parliament.
There's a wiki with a lot more information at http://www.efnz.org.nz/
and interested people can develop ideas on there, or get in touch
with me to join the party [automated, open-source systems will be
developed for managing the joining process and also the voting, for
which a concept has been developed around PKI - details on the wiki].
Looking forward to hearing comments,
