* If you haven't done this yourself beforehand, you really should be
doing it on a test machine first.
* The upgrade will probably go fine, but it may or may not be
straightforward, and may require intervention depending on your graphics
card, network card, etc. See above point.
* In any case, you should also be backing up all his data to another
machine or to CD or DVD first.
