Initially I started using gentoo because I was disappointed with the
performance of other distros, but over time I have tried other distros
(ubuntu, fc5) and discovered better reasons.

- I am a coder at heart
- the package system makes sense to me.
- Its not about the size of the system (~9G sans /home and /portage)
- I like the way the init system is implemented.
- I've learnt so much more about linux using gentoo than I have from
other distros.
- Upgrading a gentoo system is not restricted to a release version in
the same way.
- The philosophy of choice, wheather its good for the overall system or
not.

I could go on but I think thats more than enough :)
