[nzlug] linux conferences

James,

The last "Linux" conference was a Linux-focus Stream within the
NZNOG/Uniforum conference of 2002. Thats in terms of an NZ-Centric one.

There was an Australian Linux Conference held in Dunedin last year. Refer
http://www.linux.org.au/conf/2006/. This had a strong kiwi turnout,
obviously, given the venue.

Theres no other regular event. The logistics of doing so are fairly
strenuous - although a few of us are known to attend NZNOG regularly.

Wearing my NZNOG-Organising-Committee-Members hat, the
Call-for-Presentations is out (ref http://www.nznog.org) and
linux-oriented presentations would likely be welcome. Anyone
interested.... ?

But back onto the point,
As for "NZLUG" meetings, as a national LUG its hard to have meetings. The
regional LUGs tend to take this role; http://www.linux.net.nz has a list
of regional LUG's with references to their individual websites/mailing
lists embedded. Theyre able to hold local meets and events.

For example, WellyLUG - the Wellington LUG - has an Installfest scheduled
for End September 2006. Refer http://www.wellylug.org.nz.

So it depends on where you're based, really....

Cheers
Mark.
