Set your machine as a DHCP client and bring up the interface eth0 -
this is your LAN and also WAN connection. ppp0 has nothing to do with
it, unless you are doing some funky bridging between the router and
your PC (which in fact I have never really come across but I have
heard some routers do).

If you like you can manually set your IP at a later stage, however
some routers offer a static DHCP table where you specify your MAC and
that network card with that MAC address always gets the same IP from
DHCP...
