I've got two desktop machines in front of me.
One I reboot whenever I install a new kernel as a result of security
updates or if I'm going out of town overnight.
The other machine I power off when I go to bed & power on when I come home
from work. I suppose I could do a suspend to disk, but I don't I do a
fresh boot every power-on.
I'd imagine a lot of people like to power their workstations off when they
aren't using them. Doing so saves electricity.
Speed of booting is an issue for me.
And, for anyone curious as to why I don't power them both off, the one I
power off is mainly used as my TV / video player & has automatic logon. I
can power it up & wander off to make coffee, have a ciggie, etc. The other
is my main workstation & I don't like the delay while KDE starts-up
following the usename / password.
So, it's not just boot speed I begrudge.
