My addendum is that if you want a stable and slightly more up to date
server, also use Ubuntu. I have dozens of machines running it and haven't
really come across any problems. Anything major, security and stability
wise, is dealt with in both things.
The obvious point of difference is Ubuntu's universe component, which is
synced against Debian Unstable; at the moment, at least, Debian has been
stable enough that I've not seen anything wrong with packages. The MOTUs
are excellent about fixing anything that comes up.
