Hi, I have (had) a small webserver running that consists of the following:
Fedora Core 4, smp kernel, Apache etc. The install was pretty much a
standard 'minimal' Fedora server install, onto a 2GB hard disk. I have
a couple of other hard disks attached that provide the files (mainly
photos) served by the server.
As it turns out, the 2GB was probably not quite large enough, once mysql
tables and log files etc started to grow. I occasionally have to prune
a few things off the drive to keep it happy.
anyway, I tried to update the box yesterday with yum (yum upgrade), and
I believe what happened was that it ran out of disk space. I think some
rpms may have extracted fine... but some dependancies not. But anyway,
I can't get the boot sequence to complete now.
so... I need some help to try and restore the box if possible. I do
have pretty recent html backups & database snapshots (and of course, the
data on other drives), but for my own education (or punishment really)
I'd like to fix it, instead of doing the 'rebuild' thing.
The boot sequence ends something like this at the moment ('...' added
where I can't be bothered typing everything)
--------------------
...modules are loaded
....Scans logical volumes
...
Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
kjourneld starting
EXT3-fs : mounted filesystem...
switching to new root
unmounting old /proc
unmounting old /sys
exec of init (/sbin/init) failed!!!: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
[<c0124b38>] panic+0x45/0x1c4 [..........].........
............................ [..........]...........
[..........] do_group_exit+... [..........]...........
lockup here....
Any suggestions where to start? I have a FC4 rescue CD if it will help
me...
Thanks
Howard
