[nzlug] Dell Inspiron 8100 - XGL + VMWare + ??

Im looking to rebuild my long serving Dell Inspiron 8100 384MB 20GB NVidia GForce2Go(32MB) laptop.

This is what i want

XGL with the spinny window thingy
WindowsXP as a Virtual Machine for Excel & Google Sketchup
  
and the usual other desktop stuff...
 MythTV Frontend
 Able to use all the nice CODEC's
 Google earth, picasa2
 Bittorrent Client, Web etc

I am not a convert of any particular flavour  distribution or  Window Manager

So - Is the hardware up to it, any probs with XGL or VMware ??
