AFAIK, the Windows applications were there because there was a little bit of
space left.   What more applications would you have put on the live CD?

I'm not being pedantic, but I think you're advocating downloading a server
CD and then apt-get install-ing X and GNOME/KDE etc for a desktop
installation? You might possibly save some bandwidth the first time - what
about the second?
