As alternatives (unless you are ripping for a flash-player, I-Pod or car
mp3/cd player) look at ogg-vorbis format which compresses better for
equivalent bitrate. Better compression means smaller filesizes. Or FLAC
which is lossless compression at similar filesize as mp3.
