Have tried 115200, 57600, 38400 and 9600 (just to be on the safe side).

Hmm, will check those later. (I suppose the main drive voltage inverter
could be knackered. Or the +/-12V from the main PSU might be out; nothing
else would notice.)

Solve the whole problem in 25 minutes, including driving time to & from DSE.
Happy now. :-)
(While I was there I also bought an extra 256MB 133MHz RAM to put in the
machine; 128MB minus the 64MB swiped by the video card was a bit too
cramped, and the swapping was not going to impress the parents.
