Very easily: settings -> web behaviour -> animations: 
choose between enabled, disabled, show only once.

Has been there for donkeys years.

If you want an actual adblock, and use multiple browsers and can't be
bothered configuring every one of them (if at all possible), the
solution is privoxy. As the name suggests, it's a filtering proxy, and
its capabilities are almost certainly much better than those of any
browser-integrated job. It comes with every good Linux distro; start it
as a service and configure browsers to use localhost:8000 (or whatever
port number was chosen) as proxy. Bonus over disabling animations:
you're not wasting time loading the junk in the first place.
