I wish I knew why Kubuntu sucked, but I'm glad you agree with me. =;^)

Mepis is better because

1) It worked on an old ThinkPad laptop I was setting up.

Err, that's it.

Ubuntu would not detect the PCMCIA network card (even when I forced it to, 
it wouldn't connect to my network).

Kunbuntu just looked wretched.  Like KDE was just tacked on without 
thinking through the total integration with all of the installed apps.  
What I mean is that Ubuntu makes a nice job of the Gnome desktop- the 
colour scheme is tasteful, and the installed apps play nice together.  I 
think if a person wanted Gnome I would recommend Ubuntu, but if they wanted 
KDE I'd recommend Mepis.

No.  It was a joke.  I made it up.  A play on words precipitated by the 
plethora of Ubuntu-based distros (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu etc.)[1], and 
hilarious on so many levels.
