I think it's a geek thing.  People ask "How do I do X?" and geeks say "LOL, 
OMG, WTF, you don't want to do X, do Y instead.  X is teh suX0rZ, Y is sooo 
l33t".  I am guilty of this too.

Having said that, Konqueror is fantastic.  If you used Ubuntu you would be 
using Gnome.  Konqueror is KDE's file manager/general resource browser so 
you'd be less likely to encounter it, Gnome has Nautilus (but nice).

I use both.  Konqueror loads quicker, and has more of the features I want.  
Firefox is good for just web browsing.
