faad is the m4a decoding package. Then you'd use lame to turn the file back
into an mp3.
Bear in mind that you will loose sound quality doing this, if you have the
space you are probably best to use flac to re-encode the files thus
preserving the original m4a quality.
There's a simple bash script on my site called ogg2mp3 that does this for ogg
to mp3, it could be easily extended to do the same for m4a to whatever.
There are probably other people with pre-written scripts to do it already
though.
