Hi

I say have a look at compiling your own kernel. Under Debian/Ubuntu it's
a fairly painless process, and you end up with a normal .deb custom
kernel package so you wont mess up your system too much if things go
bad.

And as a bonus you learn a little more about linux :)

I've been running custom kernels in Ubuntu 6.06 for a long time now (i
needed sound and fan drivers not in the default kernel) with no
problems.

I would venture that even Edgy will have a kernel at least two versions
behind the one available at kernel.org. Stability comes at the cost of
being old.

It's worth a try.
