Sounds like it was USB connected to your windows box, and therefore
half-bridging, and is not ethernet connected to the Linux box, and
thence Linux cannot see what it's configured to.
Just a guess. Show us the output of "/sbin/ifconfig -a" (don't think
anyone else suggested "-a", you might have multiple interfaces) and
"netstat -rn"
