No, each new kernel comes with the new modules for that version.

According to the bug report:

} This simple patch removes the PCI ID's of the Davicom NIC's from 
} the tulip driver. Currently, both dmfe and tulip handles them and
} this bug report suggests that the tulip driver is not up to it 
} after all, so we should let dmfe handle them.

The tulip driver was claiming your card, and now, it won't.  The dmfe driver
is correct and should now be loaded automatically instead.
