Have a look for a model you're interested in and then check to see if it 
is compatible.

We did find that there were some hardware differences between models 
with the same name (especially HP/Compaq) where they must have different 
hardware revisions for the different countries they released a 
particular model in, so it may pay to check some of the hardware 
individually for compatability if it isn't the same as what is in the 
model on linux-laptop.net (eg one laptop I looked at that was listed on 
the site as compatible had completely different IDE controllers from the 
one listed, that weren't compatible with Linux yet).
