[nzlug] Ubuntu on an Acer Travelmate 230?

Has anyone managed to get Ubuntu running on an Acer Travelmate 230 laptop? I'm
setting one up for someone, and having some odd issues with X. I initially
got it working at 640x480, but when I tried to increase that by tweaking the
xorg.conf settings, all I got was a black screen. Even resetting the settings
back to what was there originally didn't seem to help, I can't even get that
res to come up any more. Same when I do dpkg-reconfigure xorg-xserver.
Console displays fine though. The installer detected it as needing the i810
driver, and looking around the 'net, that seems to be correct. Neither
restarting X nor rebooting helps.
Tomorrow when I try again, I'll get the lspci -vv information and see what
that'll tell me, but I'd appreciate any pointers that anyone can give.
The configure doesn't detect the LCD screen, it always comes up as 'Generic
Monitor'. I wonder if that's possibly related. How can I tell it that it's an
LCD? (I have little experience with X configuration on anything other than
desktop machines with standard monitors)
Thanks,
