The RUTE User's Tutorial and Exposition (http://rute.2038bug.com/)
provides a good introduction to linux, the command line, and so on.

It may not translate directly to how things are set up on Ubuntu - the
way init scripts work might be different, where system configuration for
networks etc is stored will almost definitely be different, and, as
keeps coming up in this thread, the way runlevels are assigned is
definitely different to the normal "standards"

But aside from that, it has some great stuff in it. Well worth the read,
but perhaps not worth printing out.
