Hi everyone, I must apologise for not coming along to the meeting. I am very keen to become involved, but as things worked out that last meeting was not possible for me. In general, however, the first Thursday of every month should be fine. Is the next meeting going ahead on the 5th of October? I won't really have a whole lot of knowledge to contribute as I am more of an enthusiast than an expert. Something I would like to be able to help with is promoting linux as an alternative to M$. Also, a pressing issue for me is that I would like to see if the group could help with the cursed winmodems. I did an install on a friends AMD laptop (Ubuntu) and all went well apart from the modem. We tried installing drivers from the linuxant website but came up with errors when they were trying to install. There was no reason given in the gui, just "installation failed". I guess the best thing would be to take her laptop to a meeting and see if any of you more knowledgeable types could see what the problem is? My wireless card works fine in her machine, so it is not a hardware issue as such... (She does not want to get broadband at this stage). I had a similar problem when installing Ubuntu on my laptop last year, but the linuxant drivers sorted that out. Anyway, I look forward to meeting you all soon.
