The goal: is to update your libc6 to the latest version.....and then
install the latest version of gtk-gnutella.
You may have to register to access the Xandros forums....but then maybe
not if you just want to read them.
A couple of things you'll need to know to make sense of this:
1. The 'preferences' file in /etc/apt is a file you may have to create
with the text editor if it does not already exit. Easy. You would need
to be ROOT to do it, though.
2. The dccamirror server is another Xandros-operated package
server....and you would add this to the list of sources in Xandros
networks - either via the GUI or by manually editing the sources list
(file name and location given below).
In any case, here is the exact URL for what you want...
http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=20521&highlight=libc6
....and - just in case - and here are the instructions at that URL:
First, pin your system to get control of what is installed from where.
Pinning is described a bit more in the link below.
http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=14236
I would suggest following content of /etc/apt/preferences (remove any
leading spaces on each line) instead of the suggestion in the link
above.
Code:
Package: *
Pin: origin
Pin-Priority: 999
Package: *
Pin: origin xnv3.xandros.com
Pin-Priority: 900
Package: *
Pin: release a=dccri-3.0
Pin-Priority: 800
Package: *
Pin: release a=stable
Pin-Priority: 777
Package: *
Pin: release a=testing
Pin-Priority: 666
Package: *
Pin: release a=unstable
Pin-Priority: 555
Second, updating libc6 alone is usually safe and can solve a lot of
update problems. I have updated mine to dsl-22. In fact, I have updated
a lot of core packages from the DCC repoitory safely (will be part of
Xandros v4). If you use X3, add following repository as one of your
sources (use XN or edit /etc/apt/sources.list as root).
Code:
deb http://dccamirror.xandros.com/dccri dccri-3.0 main
Now, open a root console (Launch->Applications->System->Administrator
Tools->Console) and enter your root password. Then execute
apt-get update
apt-get -s -t dccri-3.0 install libc6
where -s=simulate and -t=increase dccri-3.0 priority temporary from 800
to 990 to override Xandros repository priority. This should give you a
brief idea if its safe to update (at least you will see if something
will be removed). If OK, do
apt-get -t dccri-3.0 install libc6
to update to a newer version. Then try to install your other apps again.
Hope thsi hels a bit. Comeback if you have more problems and I'll see if
I can help you out.
