Hi Peter,

I'm not SuSE compliant but I think what needs to be done is setting the cdrdao 
suid.

There's an obligatory warning about setting a program suid: that program will 
always have root privileges and so it should only be something you trust.

Something like

     chmod u+s /usr/bin/cdrdao

may do the trick.
