[klug] Dial up connection

Nathan,

apologies if you have done all this...so your modem connects when you
dial as root - what do you mean by no internet access?
It could be a routing problem or a domain name resolution problem -
check the pppd logs.
Check your default route is being set when you dial up.
If you can browse to internet sites using ip numbers then routing is
fine but you need to set up your domain name servers. (try pinging
www.google.co.nz and its ip 62.102.7.99. )

As far as not connecting as a regular user I'm afraid i'm not a suse or
kde expert (i'm a slackware user). If root connects but user cannot it
really sounds like a permission problem.

But pppd _and_ kpp have options for locking the modem and you don't want
both trying to do that so you could try unchecking the 'Use Lock File'
in kpp Device tab or check /etc/ppp/options and remove the lock option.

You could also try wvdial :) - I think KInternet uses wvdial...not sure
or better still
man pppd
do it yourself and just setup a wee script to connect ;)
