While your there, install kinternet and try using that
to connect and go to /etc/ssh ssh.config and disable
remote root login and use ssh2 and delete 1 by deleting the one like so
# ssh2,1
should be
# ssh2
put ppp group in your user account permissions
and you should be on a start for the internet
install rkhunter or the other rootkit detector
while your their
if you have connected using root do a rkhunter check
# rkhunter -update
# rkhunter -c
run snort and if everything is ok
then carry on with ppp or kinternet using your user account
you should have done it during install but never mind you will next time.
