You can run it as a livecd without any installation to check hardware compatabillity or just try it or you can install to HD from the same CD. It includes a tool for repartitioning your disk. If you want to dual boot win/linux you can resize you Windows partition to free up some space to create linux partitions. Most Linux distros use a Linux-ext3 partition plus a Linux-swap partition.
