I have Partition Magic 8 (windows partitioning tool). Not entirely sure of the legalities, although I imagine it would be okay to use this as long as it wasn't left on your hard drive. Can you make the LUG meeting on Thursday? If you want to install to a USB hard drive (I think you mean a USB flash drive?) try FlashLinux http://flashlinux.org.uk I have found Flash to be "so-so" successful as not all BIOS are compatable with booting from flash, and others are erratic in how they behave.
