Lots of possibilities, which is good. I like the idea of a computer
(running Clark Connect) working as a hardware firewall & filter. I wish
the guy helping me with networking had given me a bit more information
other than just setting thngs up. If I had to graft another box to the
current network, I would not know how, so I think this means I
ultimately will have to start all over sooner or later. Perhaps when I
have some time over Christmas break I will be able to learn some proper
networking, at least enough to be able to independantly install LDAP etc
to create a shared /home network by myself.

...in the meantime, last night I looked at DansGuardian (
http://www.dansguardian.org ) which I think is brilliant for the
filtering side of things. Obviously a centralised internet server is the
way to go other than separate machine installs. Following the install
steps from http://software.newsforge.com/software/04/06/23/1521209.shtml
effectively firewalled me off the 'net, but a bit of tweaking (
including chgrp & chown squid to /var/log/dansguardian and
/var/log/dansguardian/access.log ) eventually got things running on my
home Fedora Core box.

I'm assuming that Clark Connect also uses the DansGuardian filter?

I'm in agreement with Ben in that you've likely hit what I'm looking for
in terms of security.

Lancer.
