Still too far for me to make it for one of the weekday meetings. :-) If you can hit 146.90- (Whakapunake), the National System, or dial in to IRLP node 6105 we could start an on-the-air Linux geeks net. Just so there is a little bit of on topic info in this message... my APRS station ZL2IA-5 uses Xastir running on a Linux box. 73, Jim ZL2IA (AI8A and 7J1AJH in earlier lives) Gisborne From p.spiller at xtra.co.nz Wed Sep 3 21:27:44 2008 From: p.spiller at xtra.co.nz (Perry Spiller) Date: Wed Sep 3 23:25:01 2008 Subject: [hblug] Happy Birthday GNU In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <592846.32190.qm@rel106.mail.aue.yahoo.com> ----------------Earlier, Rene commented-------------------- >As for tonights meeting, it was only John and I and wrapped up before 9am. I am however giving you a heads-up on what I am doing for SFD. As you may know I have been working on a ski lodge booking system this year as a school project. Part of this involves a research component, of which Free/Open Source software has been a part. On 20th Sept at 2:30pm I will be presenting a speech regarding this project. Luckily for me it ties in with SFD so I shall be speaking about F/OSS and my booking system. If any of you are interested please feel free to come along. Location is the school hall, Taikura Rudolf Steiner School, 505 Nelson St, North, Hastings. Further details are in the school's weekly newletter, see page 3: http://taikurasteiner.school.nz/Firstpages/Grapevine%2011%20September%202008.pdf I also intend to put together CD's to give away to those interested. Any recommendations of FOSS that windows/mac users may like (other than mozilla stuff, OOo, gimp, audacity, blender, mediaportal, VLC and pidgin)? External modems are always more powerful than internal modems, i should know i've fried more dialup modems than most ever own in their lives - or want to ever own. Just for example, new modem 1wk worth of life constant usage. external serial modem, 3yrs + until no longer required - downloaded on average 4-6GB a month of dialup - yes complete loss of telephone.
