[hblug] Hello ALL I have a small problem I cannot resolve.

I have been given a compaq Pessiro  6000 to look at by a frined,
 iT IS AMD 1.6 GZH prosessoer with 256 MEB ON BOARD
 I can access the Bios at startup
and faults out on the wd80gb HD.>> IDE 0
I have replaced HD with a tester  HD >> and have accounlished installing xp
PRO.

 My Question is

#1 is there any software available to recover the bad HD

# 2 or even software to recover files



:PS  the only information I was gived is that the conputer wouldnt start
after moving house last week end.
and it hasnt been defragged or anti maleware run < BUT avast is onboard
running at startUP
