An amusing/frustrating observation:
I have a client who does online share trading via the New York Stock
Exchange.
He did this via a clapped out old laptop running WinXP.
He came to me for help when his lappy finally karked it due to
spyware/viruses et-al
I had a refurbished Ubuntu 804 box sitting there and told him to try it.
He duly logged into his sharemarket account via Firefox and seemed happy.
Until we discovered that the sharemarket people require the execution of
a Windows program to actually make any changes in his sharemarket account.
I asked my client to inquire whether they had a Linux version (or
perhaps a platform independent version ) of the required software.
The official reply was..... "Linux? ... Never heard of it!
So it seems rather ironic than in order to participate in share market
money-shuffling, you must do so using the most insecure OS you can find :)
Ever get the feeling we are pushing manure up hill with a pointy stick ?
