Yes, that IP is default for Both devices BUT ..... it occurs to me

Yes - but rock solid - never drops out unlike the RTA-1320 does at
random intervals

The WL520 does not have a modem ( and no phone line socket ) its
designed to authenticate via LAN to a DSL modem.

Cant turn it off as such - but options are:
1 Cable Modem or other connection type that gets IP automatically
2 ADSL connection that requires username and password ( PPPoE )
3 ADSL connection that requires username and password and IP address (
PPTP )
4 ADSL or other connection that uses static IP address.

Doing nothing assumes the top choice. (#1)
But I think #4 might be closer to what I want.

There is nothing in here that says "Default IP address" or anything like
that - there are all sorts of places to add IP's depending on what
option I choose ( 1-4) above.

When I'm connected via one of the LAN ports I can access the setup
interface at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 (both IPs work)

Yes I can ping other machines that are plugged into the WL520 LAN sockets

No - 192.168.1.1 takes me to the WL520 ( so does 192.168.2.1)
