Re: the eeePC and its merits as a 'toy' or otherwise.

I am an IT Professional, at a leading IT Integrator, and very soon will be
starting a new teaching role (IT) at Uni level.

I have computers coming out of my proverbial - laptops, desktops, servers.
Windows, Linux and even a bit of Mac sometimes.

I don't know why people call it a toy, or a nightmare to manage - its a PC,
and the management is all down to the software and methods you choose to use
- to all intents and purposes, its no different to an HP desktop or a
home-built gaming rig - you still have an OS, and the ability to run
whatever software tools (or OS) you need.

What can a $799 full-blown laptop do that an eeePC cant? - about the only
differences are screen res, CPU speed, and onboard storage.

I think its simply awesome that it not only ships with Linux, but a version
of Linux that is so easy to use, and designed with non-Geeks in mind (and
successfully so, unlike Lindows etc).

It is what it is, and its a great price point.

Specifically for me, I like a tiny device that sits on the coffee table
without the better half moaning, that I can use for
email/browsing/skype/msn, and on out of town trips, it takes up so little
space in a man-bag or backpack, that I feel comfortable taking it many more
places.

To whoever asked about Windows Mobile Bluetooth PAN connections under Linux
last night, I will try and test this, and post results.

Cheers,

Tony Hughes
